Delimiter Particle +만 ‘only’<br />

The particle +만 is us<strong>ed</strong> when you want to say ‘only’ or ‘just’ (e.g. I paid just<br />

10 dollars, only 3 people came, give me just one ticket, I only went to<br />

Brisbane.). +만 comes straight after the noun it refers to. As it is a particle,<br />

you do not leave a space between the noun and 만 when you write it.<br />

(1) 손님: 너무 비싸요. They’re too expensive.<br />

좀 깎아주세요. Could you give them to me<br />

a bit cheaper?<br />

가게 주인: 그러면, 이천팔백 원만<br />

내세요.<br />

Then just 2,800 won each.<br />

(Lit. please pay just 2,800<br />

won.)<br />

(2) 가게 주인: 이 사과도 드릴까요. Shall I give you these<br />

apples too?<br />

손님: 아니요, 배만 주세요. No, just give me the pears.<br />

(3) 가게주인: 여기 있습니다. Here it is.<br />

손님: 얼마예요? How much is it?<br />

주인: 팔만 원만 주세요. Make it 80,000 won. (Lit.<br />

Give me just 80,000 won.)<br />

손님: 칠만 원만 해요. How about 70,000 won?<br />

주인: 그러세요. All right.<br />

(4) 선생님: 어제 파티에<br />

다른 학생들도 갔어요?<br />

Did any other students go<br />

to the party?<br />

학생: 아니요, 저만 갔어요. No, only I went.
