I have found CEDS to be more accurate than x-rays for detecting the exact location of infected teeth and jaws. Using the CEDS instrument makes jaw surgery more conservative, in that the dentist is able to find and remove only what is needed for a good result. Checking the same area with CEDS, eight to ten weeks after surgery, will determine if the surgery was successful. Finding the source of facial pain is accomplished in different ways. Using local anesthetic to isolate the area of discomfort is one way to find where the pain is coming from. This may be painful for the patient due to the injections. Some dentists and oral surgeons use x-ray to locate the spots considered to be a cavitation in the jaws. Thermal imaging, Cavitat (ultrasonic scans), and CEDS are painless ways of finding trigeminal neuralgia and infection in jaws. Unlike CT scans, which deliver massive amounts of x-ray radiation into the bone and head, thermal imaging, the Cavitat and CEDS deliver no x-ray radiation at all and are therefore safer, as well as non-invasive. If surgery is necessary to remove infected bone, a biopsy is standard for confirming pathology. How do we know when to check for cavitations? CEDS, along with x-rays and oral exams, will become a standard procedure for finding cavitations. Many symptoms are caused by cavitations, dead teeth, and root canal treated teeth that go unnoticed for years. Finding the cause will help to eliminate pain and unnecessary medication.
