My father‟s dental office, on a trout stream near Breed,
Wisconsin, became my office location. His dream as a young boy
was a fishing shack on this very location; little did he know how
his dream would come true.
He entered dental school after World War I, using money from
the GI Bill to finance his education. He graduated in 1921 and
started his practice in Gillett, Wisconsin. When the city of Gillett
became crowded with a population of 1400, he decided to move
north to his “trout stream dream.”
After I returned from serving as an Air Force dentist in
Germany, I started my general practice. My father‟s experience
in oral surgery and dentures put me five to ten years ahead of
most young dentists at that time. Continuing education added
to my dental skills and knowledge. Fifty-five years later I am
writing this book hoping to help patients and health care
professionals fill a need by showing the connection between
health problems and the oral cavity (odontons). Dentistry can
make a difference.
Located in the woods, on a trout stream, my office allows
patients and nature‟s wild animals to share this natural
environment. Patients can expect to see deer, wild turkey,
ducks, beaver, squirrels, partridge, and an occasional bear. For
the trout fishing person, this place is heaven for fly or spin
fishing. I find the stream relaxing in this fishing paradise. If I‟m
lucky, I catch a trout for the evening meal. This is a great place
to help patients and to enjoy dentistry at a leisurely pace. I am
looking for a dentist to join me in continuing this practice of
dentistry and health.
