Fumes Come Off Mercury Silver Amalgam Fillings in the
Mouth
At an International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology
(IAOMT) seminar, Dr. Roger Eichman, D.D.S. demonstrated how
mercury fumes are given off by mercury silver amalgam fillings.
Fumes immediately became visible on a fluorescent screen when
Dr. Eichman scraped a mercury silver filling in front of a black
light. All 200 attendees gasped in unison at the evidence of
mercury fumes leaving the filling, like smoke leaving a lit
cigarette.
Dr. Eichman explained that much more mercury vapor is
released when patients chew, or brush teeth that contain
mercury fillings. Published scientific papers report that the
brushing of teeth and chewing of food typically increase the
measured mercury vapor levels in the mouth tenfold. (Vimy,
dental amalgam. J Dent Res 64:1069-1071)
Next, he demonstrated how mercury fumes arise from a gold
crown by heating the gold. Gold produced the same methyl
mercury fumes, and made a shadow of smoke across the
fluorescent screen. Gold attracts mercury that migrates from
the mercury silver filling! Gold crowns and fillings are easily
contaminated by mercury and the mercury toxic patient who has
gold crowns or inlays will not become mercury free until all the
contaminated gold is also removed.
These same mercury fumes are emitted when new mercury
fillings are being placed, or when an old amalgam filling is being
removed. Knowing that mercury fumes are toxic, protecting the
