Throughout my dental career this has happened to me more than once. Because of the story, “Quicksilver and Slow Death”, I began taking seminars that illustrated the relationship of dental materials to health. My wake-up call was learning the toxic effects of mercury in silver amalgam fillings. I soon began helping my patients become healthier by using non-metal fillings. Three months later, in September 1987, I witnessed the damaging effects of high- speed drilling when I attended a seminar in Carmel, California, headed by Dr. Ed Arana, DDS, head of The American Academy of Biological Dentistry. Dr. Ralph Turk and Dr. Fritz Krammer together gave a week long dental seminar. Halfway through the week Dr. Turk put slides on the screen showing the deadly effects of high speed drilling on the nerve of a tooth. 2
