5 Programming Tool Movements
5.6 M-Functions for Contouring Behavior and Coordinate Data
Machining open contours: M98
5-38
Standard behavior – without M98
The TNC calculates the intersections S of the
radius-compensated tool paths and changes
traverse direction at these points. If the corners are
open on one side, however, machining is incomplete.
Machining open corners with M98
With the miscellaneous function M98 the TNC
temporarily suspends radius compensation to
ensure that both corners are completely machined.
Duration of effect
The miscellaneous function M98 is effective only in
the blocks in which it is programmed.
