Information
Discuss and consider authorizing the submission of a grant application to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department
for the Texas Recreational Trails Fund.
BACKGROUND
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department administers the National Recreational Trail Fund in Texas under the
approval of the Federal Highway Administration. Funds from this program can be spend on both motorized and
non-motorized recreational trail projects.
• Construction of new recreational trails
• Improve existing trails
• Develop trailheads or trailside facilities
• Acquire trail corridors
DISCUSSION
The Coastal Parks Department would like to submit a grant application for the Texas Recreational Trails Fund to
install public restroom facilities at Lighthouse Lakes Park. The project will be a collaboration between the City of
Aransas Pass and Nueces County.
The proposed project was included in the recently revised Coastal Parks Master Plan, which was approved by
Commissioners Court and Texas Parks and Wildlife. The Board of Park Commissioners and the Aransas Pass City
Council also approved the project.
The deadline to submit the grant application is February 1, 2013.

Funding provided by this program is on a cost reimbursement basis. Project sponsors must initiate their approved
projects with their own funds and be reimbursed up to 80 percent of allowable costs after submitting
documentation of expenses. The 20 percent cost match will be provided by the Coastal Parks Department 181.
The total grant application is $33,000 (26,400 by grant, and $6,600 cash match).
