Dr Jennifer A. Charles BVSc MVS Dip ACVP<br />

Jenny Charles graduated from The University <strong>of</strong> Sydney in 1985. She completed an<br />

internship, residency and Master <strong>of</strong> <strong>Veterinary</strong> Studies in anatomic pathology at The<br />

University <strong>of</strong> Melbourne and then pursued advanced studies in anatomic pathology<br />

at the Ontario <strong>Veterinary</strong> <strong>College</strong>, Guelph, Canada. In 1993, she became a<br />

Diplomate <strong>of</strong> the American <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Veterinary</strong> Pathologists. From 1993 to 1999,<br />

she was employed as a specialist veterinary pathologist at the Sydney Laboratory <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Veterinary</strong> Pathology Services Pty Ltd (now IDEXX Pty Ltd). In 1999, she was<br />

appointed Senior Lecturer in <strong>Veterinary</strong> Pathology at The University <strong>of</strong> Melbourne.<br />

Jenny’s particular interests lie in haematology, endocrinology, hepatobiliary and<br />

pancreatic pathology and dermatopathology.<br />

Dr Janet Littlewood MA PhD BVSc (Hons) DVR DVD MRCVS RCVS<br />

Recognised Specialist in <strong>Veterinary</strong> Dermatology<br />

Janet graduated with Honours from the University <strong>of</strong> Bristol, longer ago than she<br />

cares to remember! As a new graduate she spent a year as Intern at the University <strong>of</strong><br />

Pennsylvania, she spent some time in general practice before being appointed<br />

Assistant Physician at the University <strong>of</strong> Cambridge. After this training in small<br />

animal medicine, she studied for her PhD in aspects <strong>of</strong> comparative haemostasis, but<br />

then returned to clinical medicine and to focus on dermatology. She established the<br />

Dermatology Unit at the Animal Health Trust, Newmarket, w<strong>here</strong> she developed her<br />

interest in equine dermatology, in addition to the small animal clinical work, training<br />

residents and supervising a research student working on canine atopy. She holds the<br />

RCVS Diploma and has Recognised Specialist status in <strong>Veterinary</strong> Dermatology and<br />

has been examiner for both Certificate and Diploma examinations. She has written<br />

chapters for and edited a number <strong>of</strong> textbooks as well as contributing to peer<br />

reviewed journals. She is involved in postgraduate continuing education and has<br />

spoken at many national and international conferences and is renowned for her<br />

enthusiasm for her subject. Since 2001 Janet has been working in private referral<br />

practice in East Anglia, <strong>of</strong>fering a service for companion animals, including horses.<br />

As well as running her business, Janet is mum to two sons, is overseeing major house<br />

renovations, and still tries to find time to sing with the Cambridge Philharmonic<br />

Society and is learning to play the viola.<br />

Clinical veterinarian, animal dermatologist and by marriage a cat person.<br />
