ACSIP http://acsip.state.ar.us/cgi-bin/index.cgi?rm=report_acsip EARLY CHILDHOOD TRANSITION: To ensure a seamless transition to first grade next year, the Literacy Instructional Facilitators for BKC and BPS worked together to vertically align the kindergarten and first grade curriculum maps for Common Core Standards. At the end of the current school year, all kindergarten students will tour Blytheville Primary School so that transitioning to first grade next year will be easier. Action Type: Collaboration Action Type: Title I Schoolwide PARENTAL ENGAGEMENT: (Kdgn)To build parental capacity, Weekly Reader will be purchased for all students to encourage parents/guardians to read to their child at home daily. Additionally, since our school is classified as low SES, it will allow reading materials to be placed in student homes that do not have any books or magazines for students (supplemental to ACT 397). Action Type: Parental Engagement (K)PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT/COORDINATION OF FUNDS: A workshop conducted by a consultant will focus on the different ways that the Student Response System can be used in the classroom to enhance learning, assess students, and provide remediation in targeted skills. A new Student Response System will be ordered for the new teacher hired after the start of the school year so that all teachers will have a set in their respective classrooms. Action Type: Professional Development Action Type: Technology Inclusion Action Type: Title I Schoolwide TECHNOLOGY: Listening centers and Gregg computers for kindergarten will be used to promote the development of language skills and vocabulary as well as comprehension strategies. They will be used to provide a model of reading with fluency and expression. Additionally, students will increase their vocabulary through exposure to books during read-alouds, environmental print, and vocabulary word walls. Objects in the classroom will be labeled, high frequency words will be posted, and read-aloud vocabulary words with a copy of the cover of the book will be posted. ACSIP http://acsip.state.ar.us/cgi-bin/index.cgi?rm=report_acsip awareness, and developing vocabulary Action Type: Collaboration Action Type: Equity Action Type: Title I Schoolwide (K)PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT/COLLABORATION/ COORDINATION OF FUNDS: The staff will attend workshops provided by school district personnel and professional consultants throughout the school year. The literacy facilitator, along with the former literacy facilitator and classroom teachers, developed the science curriculum and coordinated the curriculum with Common Core standards in literacy, science in June 2012. She will attend the AAEA Leadership Conference in Little Rock that has sessions for implementation of a curriculum based on Common Core Standards. We will revisit Eric Jensen’s Teaching With Poverty in Mind. This will help us to keep in mind measures that will help to reach students who are from low socio-economic levels. All new teachers are attending ELLA Training. All staff from kindergarten attended a Classroom Management for Novice Teachers workshop provided by Crowley's Ridge Educational Service Co-op staffmember, Tammy Winslow. ELLA will help the new teachers increase their depth of knowledge in using the most effective research based strategies in their classrooms. Other conferences and workshops on Common Core Standards, alignment, best practices, classroom management, and analysis of assessment data will be scheduled throughout the school year. Teachers will be paid @$15 per hour for attending professional development after school hours. Substitutes contracted through SubTeach USA will be provided for teachers to attend conferences in these areas of professional development. She will oversee the assessment of all students and maintenance of data to ensure that all students that need interventions are identified. Student lists that are based on the needs of the student will be supplied to the interventionists and classroom teachers so that appropriate interventions can be planned to meet those specific needs. Materials will be purchased by the Literacy Instructional Facilitator to support the implementation of Common Core Standards in all classrooms.
