(K)PARENTAL ENGAGEMENT (1g): One
certified faculty member will serve as a
PARENT FACILITATOR and ensure
compliance with ACT 397. Her duties will
include planning Family Nights, Dr. Seuss
Day activities, Family Literacy Day,
Grandparents' Day, and various activities
that involve parents in their child's
education.

VOLUNTEER RESOURCE BOOK is maintained
with current data for Blytheville Primary
School to mainstream the process of
enlisting volunteers by matching volunteer
interests with the needs of the school

(K) PARENTAL ENGAGEMENT (1j/2b/2f):
Instruction to parents on incorporating
developmentally appropriate learning
activities for literacy in the home
environment are provided by the on-site
Literacy Instructional Facilitator. Materials
are supplied to the parent/guardian to take
home to assist his/her child's academic
learning. Classroom teachers are
encouraged to refer parents of low
performing students to the Literacy
Instructional Facilitator (supplemental to
ACT 397).

(K)PARENTAL ENGAGEMENT will be
encouraged through school music programs,
assemblies, birthday celebrations, good
citizen recognition, student of the month,
etc. (supplemental to ACT 397).

(K) A grant from the Northeast Arkansas
Area on Aging allowed policemen, firemen,
and senior citizens the opportunity to visit
our school on the Friday prior to the
anniversary of 9/11. They read a book about
heroes to each classroom of students and
discussed what it meant to be a hero. We
will emphasize diversity. Then they donated
the books to the school library for students
to checkout.

(K) BUILDING PARENTAL CAPACITY:
Teachers will maintain regular, two-way
communication with parents through the
use/purchase of parent communicators,
classroom newsletters, e-mail, and any
other form of communication convenient to
that process. Each month teachers will
make positive contacts with parents. Data
on these contacts will be maintained and
forwarded to the district parent facilitator.
The staff will recognize the importance of
effective communication, value and utilize
contributions of parents. Information will be
sent out in practical language that parents
can understand. (supplemental to Act 397)
