The schedule of the events shall be by school, approved by the principal, and shall be part of the annual school calendar; 11. Abide by the current allowable food and beverage portion standards; 12. Meet the more stringent of Arkansas' or the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Nutrition Standards for reimbursable meals and a la' carte foods served in the cafeteria; 13. Restrict access to vended foods, competitive foods, and foods of minimal nutritional value (FMNV) as required by law and rule; 14. Conform new and/or renewed vending contracts to the content restrictions contained in the Rules and reduce district dependence on profits from the sale of FMNV. 15. Provide professional development to all district staff on topics of nutrition and/or physical activity including CPR training for individuals in each school, training for prevention of teen suicide, sexual abuse, and child maltreatment, and diabetic awareness including the use of glucagon; 16. Utilize the School Health Index available from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to assess how well the district is doing at implementing this wellness policy and at promoting a healthy environment for its students. Advisory Committee to enhance the district's efforts to improve the health of our students, a School Nutrition and Physical Activity Advisory Committee (SNPAAC) shall be formed at each school in addition to the district committee. The district committee including a board member, a community representative, a parent, a student, representatives from each building, the director of food services, and district administrators will meet quarterly. The SNPAAC shall have the powers and responsibilities delegated to it by statute and Rule. The overarching goal of the committee shall be to promote student wellness by monitoring how well the district is doing at implementing this policy. The SNPAAC shall use modules 1, 2, 3, 4, and 8 of the CDC's School Health Index as a basis for assessing each school's progress toward meeting the requirements of this policy. The results of the annual assessment shall be included in each school's ACSIP, provided to each school's principal, and reported to the board. ACSIP http://acsip.state.ar.us/cgi-bin/index.cgi?rm=report_acsip Each school year, all kindergarten and second grade students at Blytheville Primary will receive an annual assessment of body mass index (BMI) as required by ACT 201. Results of the BMI will be tracked each year. Action Type: Wellness (1-2) PROGRAM EVALUATION for Wellness Priority 1. The School Health Index and BMI completed in appropriate grades are used to determine areas needed for improvement. The building wellness committee members monitor implementation of the strategies for students becoming healthier and physically fit. 2. To ensure implementation of the wellness policy, regular meetings are held by the wellness committee composed of representation from each school, district administrators, community representative, and the food services director. Menus are reviewed and adjustments are made as needed. 3. Students are impacted by the implementation of the wellness policy by being provided nutritious meals at breakfast and lunch, and scheduled physical activity which in turn helps the students be more ready to learn by being physically fit. Action Type: Program Evaluation (1-2) The P.E. coach will serve on the district wellness committee which promotes health awareness. Action Type: Collaboration Action Type: Wellness (1-2) Students will learn about making healthy choices by participating in drug awareness activities during Red Ribbon Week in October and during monthly counseling classes. The wellness and good Principal health of students has an impact on their academic performance. Parents are notified of the findings of the screenings. Action Type: Collaboration Action Type: Parental Engagement All kindergarten students will participate in a wellness day that promotes the need for a healthy lifestyle through physical exercise. Action Type: Wellness During physical education classes, the instructor will continue to implement the walking curriculum for all kindergarten students to meet the state goal of walking a mile in 30 minutes or less. Action Type: Wellness The instruction in the physical education classes will be aligned with the curriculum contained in the Arkansas Physical Education and Health Curriculum Framework for K-2.
