The compact includes: 1.) the school’s responsibility to provide high quality curriculum and enables Title I children to meet Arkansas’s academic achievement standards; 2.) how parents will be responsible for supporting their children’s learning, such as monitoring attendance, homework completion, television watching, volunteering in their child’s classroom, participating in decisions relating to their child’s education and positive use of extracurricular time; and 3.) the importance of establishing ongoing, good communication between teachers and parents through parent-teacher conferences to discuss individual student progress discussing the child’s achievement, frequent progress reports to families on student academic progress, and reasonable access to staff and opportunities to volunteer, observe and participate in classroom activities. Action Type: Collaboration Action Type: Parental Engagement (K-2)PARENTAL ENGAGEMENT: (F)PTA/PTO: Teachers and parents will have the opportunity to form a PTA/PTO which will further enhance the education of students through various activites such as but not limited to Homework Night and Fellowship with the Family, etc. (supplemental to Act 397) Action Type: Collaboration Action Type: Parental Engagement (1-2) BUILDING PARENTAL CAPACITY: Host a beginning of school year Open House and invite parents to learn about the school's annual goals. (supplemental to ACT 397). Action Type: Parental Engagement (K-2) PROGRAM EVALUATION: 1. To evaluate community and parental involvement, sign-in sheets and surveys are used for all activities which involved parents, guardians, grandparents, and community leaders. Surveys are completed after various functions throughout the school year and analyzed by the Parent Facilitator. The Parent Facilitator keeps records of positive parent contacts made by teachers monthly. All of this documentation shows that actions are being implemented to increase parent and community involvement. 2. Surveys for family nights, Parent-Teacher Conferences, and a school perception survey are used to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention. The number of monthly positive parent contacts was tabulated each month by the teachers and given to the Parent Facilitator. During PTO meetings, parents were given the opportunity to share any information or voice their opinions. 3. The 2010-2011 Family Night sign-in sheets showed an increase in parental participation. Most of the activities centered on skills that would improve the child's academic performance at school. During the 2011-2012 school year, parents/community leaders were invited to visit the school during special days such as Grandparent's Day, National Family Literacy Day, Dr. Seuss Day, etc. During the 2012-2013, all actions will continue to be implemented to increase parent and community involvement. Action Type: Collaboration Action Type: Parental Engagement Action Type: Program Evaluation Action Type: Title I Schoolwide (1-2) BUILDING PARENTAL CAPACITY: Teachers will maintain regular, two-way communication with parents through the use/purchase of parent communicators, classroom newsletters, e-mail, and any other form of communication convenient to that process. Each month teachers will make positive contacts with parents.
