To Gregg improve student academic performance, Yarbrough, Comprehensive Literacy was Principal implemented in all classrooms. The components include familiar reading, circle time/modeled writing, shared reading, phonological awareness/phonics /spelling, small assisted learning groups and/or guided reading, read-aloud, and assisted writing. This intervention is being fully implemented as evidenced by formal and informal observations by the Literacy Instructional Facilitator, principal, vice principal and JBHM consultant. During these observations, it was noted that teachers were using ELLA strategies in all components of the literacy block. 2. To determine the degree of effectiveness of the implementation of all components of Comprehensive Literacy, DIBELS data, CWT data, formal and informal observations, and retention data is used. At the beginning of every literacy meeting, time is allotted for questions or concerns about any part of the literacy program. This process helps to clear up any misconceptions or confusions and results in the sharing of ideas which leads to changes that improve classroom instruction. 3. At the end of the 2010-2011 school year, teachers had increased their depth of knowledge as evidenced by the gains made on the DIBELS Benchmark assessments. There was a 10% increase on LNF, 13% increase on PSF, and 5% increase on NWF from initial assessments at the beginning of the school year to the end of the school year of students meeting the benchmark scores. The number of retentions dropped from 22 students for 2009-2010 to 6 students for 2010-2011. Due to the success of this intervention, it will be continued for the 2011-2012 school year with professional development focusing on developing instruction based on the thematic units of Common Core while integrating technology throughout the lessons. Action Type: Program Evaluation (K-2) A peer review of the current ACSIP Plans was held on Sept. 24, 2012. Literacy/Math instructional facilitators/administrators checked each others school plans using the rubric. Corrections identified are being updated in the plans. Preschool students will tour kindergarten classrooms at the end of the current school year to help make the transition from preschool to kindergarten easier. (ABC Grant) Action Type: Alignment Action Type: Title I Schoolwide RECRUITING AND MAINTAINING OF HIGHLY QUALIFIED PARAPROFESSSIONALS: 3 @ 1.0 FTE paraprofessionals will assist the preschool teachers with students in the classrooms to monitor and ensure that the students stay on task while in learning centers. They will assist students during breakfast, lunch, snack time, recess, and preparing for naps. This allows the classes to stay in compliance with the student/teacher ratio as required by ECERS. (ABC Grant) Action Type: Title I Schoolwide PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Appropriate training including CPR Training, Pre-ELLA, Early Childhood Education Framework, Work Sampling/Environmental Rating Scale, and COPA will be provided for the preschool teachers and paraprofessionals to maintain compliance with ECERS.
