Action Type: Collaboration Action Type: Equity Action Type: Professional Development (K)Teachers will create an assessment portfolio for each individual student that will include Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) Next Benchmark Assessments given at appropriate intervals throughout the school year. These benchmark assessments are a strong indicator of students who experience early reading success as well as those who are at risk of having reading difficulties. Copies of the report card and AIPs/IRIs will be included in the portfolios. They will be transferred to first grade at the end of the school year. Action Type: Title I Schoolwide (K)PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT/COLLABORATION/ SCHOOLWIDE REFORM STRATEGIES/TEACHERS INVOLVED IN DECISION MAKING: The Literacy Instructional Facilitator will schedule team meetings that will be held after school. The meetings will focus on analyzing student data to determine if there are gaps in the instruction, plan interventions and enrichment for students. Additionally, Common Core thematic units will be discussed and the standards will be deconstructed to ensure that teachers cover all of the skills needed for the student's successful mastery of each standard. Ideas to integrate technology into the thematic units will be shared, and science lessons will be refined to align with the Common Core thematic units. Interactive Smartboard technology will be used both in the Science Lab and classrooms. Classroom Walkthrough (CWT) data will be collected and analyzed periodically throughout the school year to determine the usage of Marzano's High Yield Strategies during lessons and the level of questioning based on Bloom's taxonomy that is predominately used. A data wall will be developed and maintained to track student's progress in reading readiness skills. Data from DIBELS Next assessments, weekly literacy assessments, and STAR Early Literacy will be used for student placement on the data wall. An emphasis will be placed on developing automaticity of the alphabetic principle and developing phonological awareness skills. She will collaborate with the Literacy Instructional Facilitator and classroom teachers. Action Type: Collaboration Action Type: Equity Action Type: Title I Schoolwide (K)NEEDS ASSESSMENT/RECRUITING AND MAINTAINING HIGHLY QUALIFIED TEACHERS: 1 @ 1.0 FTE Certified Literacy Interventionist(Sharon Foulks) will provide intensive, focused instruction to the lowest academic performing students who have not met DIBELS Next benchmark scores when assessed at the beginning or middle of the school year. Students will be grouped according to their needs based on data from DIBELS, progress monitoring, and teacher observation and will focus on their deficit skills based on the phonological awareness continuum. The interventionist will collaborate with the student's classroom teacher and Literacy Instructional Facilitator. An Intensive Reading Intervention (IRI) plan or Academic Improvement Plan (AIP) will be developed with parental involvement for these students who will be monitored monthly or bi-monthly based on needs assessment throughout the school year. The scores from these assessments will be plotted on trajectories contained in an intervention portfolio that all classroom teachers will receive for each student identified as needing an AIP/IRI.
