Additionally, the Math Instructional Facilitator will continue training provided by math consultants at Crowley's Ridge Educational Service Co-op that focuses on Diane Sweeney's work of Building Capacity between teachers, instructional facilitators, and students. Action Type: Alignment Action Type: Collaboration Action Type: Title I Schoolwide (K) INSTRUCTION FROM HIGHLY QUALIFIED TEACHERS/COORDINATION of FUNDS/TEACHERS INVOLVED IN DECISION MAKING: The curriculum will be enhanced and supported by the purchase of new instructional materials, manipulatives, and professional literature containing best practices based on current research. To accelerate academic performance in low performing students and kinesthetic learners, tactile materials for math instruction will be purchased to provide lots of hands-on activities. A science lab will be utilized to facilitate instruction and exploration of science under the direction of the classroom teacher and Math Instructional Facilitator. Tactile materials purchased for the science lab will give students a hands-on approach to exploring the different areas of science. Short videos will be used in the science lab utilizing the SmartBoard to hook the students into the lesson when appropriate. Activities in the science lab will be correlated to the thematic units of Common Core. Action Type: Collaboration Action Type: Technology Inclusion Action Type: Title I Schoolwide (K) TECHNOLOGY: Classroom teachers will use SmartBoards, document cameras, overhead projectors, iPads and airliners to enhance instruction during math and support the core instruction that is based on Common Core Standards. The use of this technology will allow teachers to meet the needs of visual, kinesthetic, and auditory learners through the integration of different types of media, websites, and materials used in conjunction with the document camera and SmartBoards. Students will be given this assessment at the beginning, middle, and end of the year. Teachers will analyze the data from these assessments to make adjustments in their instruction and provide interventions to students based on need. Action Type: Title I Schoolwide (K) RECRUITING AND MAINTAINING HIGHLY QUALIFIED PARAPROFESSIONALS/NEEDS ASSESSMENT: 1 @ 1.0 FTE (Lou Riggs) paraprofessional will be utilized to provide instruction individually or in small groups to students who did not meet benchmark levels on mClass Math Assessments. Instruction will be based on the needs of the students. The Math Instructional Facilitator will collaborate with the interventionist. Action Type: Collaboration Action Type: Equity Action Type: Title I Schoolwide (K) PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Classroom teachers will attend workshops that focus on using best practices for math instruction; Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) workshops that promote problem solving through self-discovery using manipulatives; workshops that focus on integrating technology into math lessons based on Common Core Standards. Substitutes contracted through SubTeach USA will be provided for teachers when necessary. Action Type: Professional Development (K) PROGRAM EVALUATION: 1. To improve student academic performance, the implementation of various instructional strategies was used in all classrooms. Instructional methods include the use of manipulatives, exploratory activities, and peer teaching, Implementation of various math instructional strategies using manipulatives with the Harcourt Math series in all classrooms has been successful. Formal and informal observations by the Math Instructional Facilitator, principal, and JBHM consultant show that teachers are using a variety of manipulatives and integrating the software programs of Starfall and Education City into their lessons. 2.
