<strong>in</strong> cases <strong>of</strong> contact with O<strong>the</strong>rs. Ballard’s contacts also usher <strong>in</strong> an era <strong>in</strong> which such contacts<br />

are <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>gly with creatures from o<strong>the</strong>r planets—an ongo<strong>in</strong>g embodiment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> O<strong>the</strong>r’s<br />

home.<br />

By <strong>the</strong> late 1930’s, Guy and Edna’s ongo<strong>in</strong>g channel<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> St. Germa<strong>in</strong> (<strong>the</strong> predom<strong>in</strong>ant<br />

mode <strong>of</strong> communication was still via occult means—at this po<strong>in</strong>t embodied communication was<br />

an emergent mode) drew a follow<strong>in</strong>g, estimates <strong>of</strong> which range from one to three million. 184<br />

The<br />

Ballards made a f<strong>in</strong>e liv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong>f <strong>the</strong> adherents to <strong>the</strong>ir faith, sell<strong>in</strong>g salvational futures, ra<strong>the</strong>r than<br />

shares <strong>of</strong> non-operative oil wells, which had been Guy’s forte prior to <strong>the</strong> found<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Great I<br />

Am. 185<br />

Bryan describes <strong>the</strong> process <strong>of</strong> tith<strong>in</strong>g at an open public meet<strong>in</strong>g:<br />

Specific references are now be<strong>in</strong>g made to <strong>the</strong> “I AM Love Gift Boxes” located at <strong>the</strong><br />

rear <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> auditorium. You f<strong>in</strong>d later that <strong>the</strong>y are very conveniently and advantageously<br />

placed for <strong>the</strong> reception <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> little “Love Gift” envelope you hold <strong>in</strong> your hand.<br />

“Dear ones!” says <strong>the</strong> announcer earnestly. “Blessed Mr. and Mrs. Ballard do<br />

not need <strong>the</strong>se <strong>of</strong>fer<strong>in</strong>gs; <strong>the</strong>y are merely for you beloved students to ‘open up channels’<br />

for bless<strong>in</strong>gs from <strong>the</strong> great Ascended Masters.”<br />

The eyes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> announcer aga<strong>in</strong> look heavenward as though showers <strong>of</strong> bless<strong>in</strong>gs<br />

had already accompanied this reference to <strong>the</strong> unseen “Masters.”<br />

“Unless you give freely,” he adds, still very earnestly, “you cannot receive.” Then<br />

very emphatically, “That is <strong>the</strong> Ascended Master’s law <strong>of</strong> life!” 186<br />

Thus Bryan reveals <strong>the</strong> exceptional potential for fund rais<strong>in</strong>g implicit <strong>in</strong> harmonialism. As<br />

previously stated, if you were <strong>in</strong> harmony with <strong>the</strong> universe <strong>the</strong>n all good th<strong>in</strong>gs flowed toward<br />

you. It was <strong>the</strong> cultivation <strong>of</strong> sensitivity and occult knowledge (which was provided by some<br />

privileged medium, <strong>in</strong> this case <strong>the</strong> Ballards) along with <strong>the</strong> practice <strong>of</strong> openness that placed one<br />

<strong>in</strong> harmony. The openness <strong>in</strong> this case was cultivated by giv<strong>in</strong>g—specifically cash. The Ballards<br />

apparently discouraged <strong>the</strong> use <strong>of</strong> copper pennies <strong>in</strong> tith<strong>in</strong>g, copper be<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong>fensive to <strong>the</strong><br />

Religions (Aust<strong>in</strong>, Texas: Liv<strong>in</strong>g Truth M<strong>in</strong>istries, 1990).<br />

185 Guy did, however, cont<strong>in</strong>ue to sell shares <strong>in</strong> a gold m<strong>in</strong>e dur<strong>in</strong>g his years as “accredited messenger,” as well as<br />

borrow<strong>in</strong>g aga<strong>in</strong>st <strong>the</strong> caches <strong>of</strong> gold that St. Germa<strong>in</strong> promised to reveal.<br />
