have subord<strong>in</strong>ate clauses which reflect an argumental read<strong>in</strong>g while appear<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> nonargumental<br />

positions. This proposal has aiso expla<strong>in</strong>ed the difference between these A-<br />

doubl<strong>in</strong>g clauses <strong>and</strong> adverbial clauses, which demonstrate adjunct-iike behaviour <strong>and</strong> do<br />

not receive argumental <strong>in</strong>terpretations. Furthemore, we have shown that <strong>Cree</strong><br />

subord<strong>in</strong>ate clauses do not contradict the Pronom<strong>in</strong>al <strong>Argument</strong> Hypothesis.<br />

There are certa<strong>in</strong>ly issues that are lefi unresolved. The question of extraction<br />

needs to be <strong>in</strong>vestigated fiuther, it may provide <strong>in</strong>formation which cm help us ref<strong>in</strong>e this<br />

analysis. As well, the ability of both subord<strong>in</strong>ate subject <strong>and</strong> object arguments to be r-<br />

l<strong>in</strong>lied to the rnatrix object of a TA verb, as shown <strong>in</strong> examples (116) <strong>and</strong> (1 17), suggest<br />

that there may be other factors govem<strong>in</strong>g which argument is chosen to be CO-<strong>in</strong>dexed with<br />

an A-doubl<strong>in</strong>g expression. This opens a new area of research.
