Sentence (62a) has the determ<strong>in</strong>er with<strong>in</strong> the post-verbal NP nisto ishhva 'three<br />

women(obv)'. In (62b), the detenn<strong>in</strong>er has been extracted out of the NP when the NP is<br />

<strong>in</strong> a preverbal position. In (62~). riisto 'three' is extracted fiom the NP <strong>in</strong> postverbal<br />

position. In both cases, nisto 'three' is fronted to a pre-verbal position, a focus position.<br />

(62) a. cîmiy wâpamêw nisto iskwêwa.<br />

Jimrny-3 see. TA-(3-3') three woman-3'<br />

'Jimmy sees three women. '<br />
