Fr - The frequency where <strong>the</strong> hearing sensitivity is highest.<br />

Sensitivity - The level <strong>of</strong> a pure tone which is detectable within <strong>the</strong><br />

guidelines <strong>of</strong> established testing procedure.<br />

Sm - The lowest detectable pure tone level (Highest<br />

sensitivity level).<br />

Ss - The pure tone sensitivity level for a specific species<br />

at <strong>the</strong> center frequency with <strong>the</strong> highest 1/3 octave b<strong>and</strong><br />

level above <strong>the</strong> hearing threshold at <strong>the</strong> same frequency.<br />

BWeff - The audible b<strong>and</strong>width (see Fig. 5.2)<br />

Ref SER - A reference value with D, = 1 /km2, to permit comparison<br />

<strong>of</strong> species density independent SER values.<br />

Area SER - The rating value when Ds is set to an appropriate value<br />

for a specific species.<br />

SER-SNC1 - A measure <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> potential acoustic influence <strong>of</strong> source<br />

on a species, independent <strong>of</strong> source density.
