TRANSMISSION LOSS CHARACTERISTICS FOR SELECTED OCS PLANNING AREAS<br />

The results obtained from <strong>the</strong> IFD sound transmission model for <strong>the</strong> Norton<br />

Basin, North Aleutian Basin <strong>and</strong> Shumagin OCS Planning Areas are presented<br />

here. Results are given for surface layer <strong>and</strong> neutral gradient conditions in<br />

<strong>the</strong>se areas using <strong>the</strong> representative sound speed pr<strong>of</strong>iles shown in Fig. 4.2.<br />

A summary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> propagation data reported by Greene 1981 for <strong>the</strong> Chukchi<br />

Sea area is also presented. The conditions represented are winter with 100%<br />

ice cover <strong>and</strong> summer with 50% ice cover.<br />
