B. Excess <strong>of</strong> Expenditures Over Appropriations<br />

The following governmental fund had an excess <strong>of</strong> expenditures over appropriations for <strong>the</strong> year<br />

ended December 31, 1998:<br />

Special Revenue Fund<br />

Lane Memorial Library $12.663<br />

Overexpenditures occurred primarily due to <strong>the</strong> receipt and expenditure <strong>of</strong> unanticipated funds.<br />

NOTE 3 - ASSETS<br />

A. Cash and Equivalents<br />

At year end, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Town</strong>'s cash deposits categorized according to risk assumed were as follows:<br />

Category 1<br />

Includes deposits that are insured (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation).<br />

Category 2<br />

Includes deposits that are uninsured, but are collateralized by securities held by <strong>the</strong><br />

pledging financial institution, its<br />

trust department or agent in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Town</strong>'s name.<br />

Category 3<br />

Includes deposits that are uninsured and uncollateralized.<br />

Repurchase Agreements<br />

Included in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Town</strong>'s cash equivalents at December 31, 1998, were short-term investments in<br />

repurchase agreements issued by a local banking institution. Under <strong>the</strong>se agreements, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Town</strong><br />

will be repaid principal plus interest on a specified date which is subsequent to year end. The<br />

agreement is guaranteed/collateralized with securities held by <strong>the</strong> banking institution which exceed<br />

<strong>the</strong> amount <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> agreement.<br />
