PLANNING BOARD<br />

1998 was an extremely busy and challenging year for <strong>the</strong> <strong>Hampton</strong><br />

Planning Board. Regulation changes necessitated public hearings for special<br />

permits. This added to <strong>the</strong> already increasing volume <strong>of</strong> applications as <strong>the</strong><br />

scarcity <strong>of</strong> land generated creative development proposals. The April<br />

reorganization meeting saw James Workman appointed Vice-Chairman, Peter<br />

Olney voted as Clerk, and Fred Rice remaining as <strong>the</strong> Selectmen's Member.<br />

The Board also welcomed back Keith Lessard and myself after successful reelection<br />

bids.<br />

Veteran members Carolyn Payzant, Robert Viviano and alternate<br />

Daniel Trahan were also on hand to lend <strong>the</strong>ir expertise for <strong>the</strong> year. Tracy<br />

Lang, our Circuit Rider Planner continued expanded hours to accommodate <strong>the</strong><br />

Board's needs. The organization and administration aspects <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Board have<br />

been successful due to Janet Perkins, our extremely capable Board Secretary.<br />

The Planning Board worked diligently on updating <strong>the</strong> Zoning<br />

Ordinances, <strong>the</strong> Subdivision Regulations, and Site Plan Regulations to<br />

consistency.<br />

The members spent a significant amount <strong>of</strong> time on <strong>the</strong> Master<br />

Plan Committee, Capital Improvement Plan Committee, Beach Re-zoning<br />

Committee, and <strong>the</strong> Exeter Road Transportation Corridor Study Group.<br />

In 1998 <strong>the</strong> Planning Board approved <strong>the</strong> following: Five applications<br />

were approved, adding 19 lots to <strong>the</strong> tax rolls. Two <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> more challenging<br />

subdivision applications were <strong>the</strong> six lots <strong>of</strong>f Alexander Drive for Parkway<br />

Development and six for Majestic Pines <strong>of</strong>f <strong>of</strong> Mace Road. The Board also<br />

approved six minor lot line adjustments and eight site plans.<br />

<strong>the</strong> Site Plan Review were Seacoast Crossroads, Pillar Investment Corporation<br />

(<strong>of</strong>fices), North Atlantic Realty Trust (condominiums), Mirra Development<br />

(medical <strong>of</strong>fices), L & B Barnaby (Burger King & elderly housing), and<br />

Citizen's Bank.<br />

The Board also granted 24 Special Permits and 10 Use Change<br />

The Planning Board continues to meet on <strong>the</strong> first and third Wednesday<br />

evening <strong>of</strong> each month and welcomes all to attend or to view its proceedings on<br />

<strong>the</strong> local cable television channel.<br />
