The Seven members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> regional haz-mat team from our department, headed<br />

by Captain Guy Larivee, logged a total <strong>of</strong> 336 hours <strong>of</strong> training in <strong>the</strong> first year<br />

<strong>of</strong> operation. Each member is required to complete 48 hours <strong>of</strong> refresher<br />

training every year.<br />

EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES :<br />

We have had a busy year in <strong>the</strong> EMS Division <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> department. Our<br />

ambulance responses were 1396, an increase <strong>of</strong> 9.14 percent over <strong>the</strong> previous<br />

years.<br />

Firefighter/EMT Michael Brillard has completed his paramedic training with <strong>the</strong><br />

Optima Health-Elliot Paramedic Education Program. During <strong>the</strong> educational<br />

process, Mike completed both clinical and field rotations, which consisted <strong>of</strong><br />

468 hours and over 700 hours <strong>of</strong> classroom studies.<br />

In September <strong>of</strong> this year Firefighter/EMT' s, Justin Cutting and Michael<br />

McMahon have begun <strong>the</strong>ir Paramedic training at Portsmouth Regional<br />

Hospital. They will continue <strong>the</strong>ir studies throughout <strong>the</strong> year 1999, and will<br />

graduate from <strong>the</strong> program in <strong>the</strong> fall.<br />

The department is<br />

staffed with fourteen EMT Basic, eleven EMT Intermediates,<br />

and eight Paramedics, with <strong>the</strong> goal <strong>of</strong> having a paramedic stationed at both <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Town</strong> and Beach Stations.<br />

Medical training hours totaled over 2400 hours <strong>of</strong> Basic and 816 hours <strong>of</strong><br />

Advanced Life support, some <strong>of</strong> which were taken outside <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> department.<br />

All <strong>of</strong> our Emergency Medical Technicians must recertify with <strong>the</strong> National<br />

Registry <strong>of</strong> Emergency Medical Technicians, a national certifying organization,<br />

every two years.<br />
