Example 3.3 (Battle of the Bismarck Sea)<br />

In 1943 the northern half of New Guinea was controlled by<br />

the Japanese, the southern half by the allies. The Japanese<br />

wanted to reinforce their troops. This could happen using<br />

two different routes: (1) north (rain and bad visibility) or<br />

(2) south (weather ok). Trip should take 3 days.<br />

The allies want to bomb the convoy as long as possible. If<br />

they search north, they can bomb 2 days (independently<br />

of the route taken by the Japanese). If they go south, they<br />

can bomb 3 days if the Japanese go south too, and only 1<br />

day, if the Japanese go north.
