encouraged adoption of RosettaNet, and to date, S<strong>in</strong>gapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and the<br />
Philipp<strong>in</strong>es have jo<strong>in</strong>ed the United States, Australia, Ch<strong>in</strong>a, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan <strong>in</strong><br />
establish<strong>in</strong>g regional affiliate offices to support implementation of RosettaNet<br />
standards. 104 The Malaysian government has been particularly active <strong>in</strong> provid<strong>in</strong>g grants<br />
to small and medium-sized suppliers to enable them to adopt RosettaNet standards. 105<br />
Regionwide, one of the measures listed <strong>in</strong> the electronics sector Roadmap is to<br />
“<strong>in</strong>stitutionalize” RosettaNet, but the purpose of this measure was to establish the<br />
software for application to customs procedures (exchange of trade documents) rather than<br />
promote its use between firms <strong>in</strong> the private sector. 106 RosettaNet is an example of private<br />
sector-led e-commerce efforts <strong>in</strong> <strong>ASEAN</strong> and underscores the importance of measures<br />
that <strong>in</strong>tegrate <strong>ASEAN</strong> producers <strong>in</strong>to the global computer supply cha<strong>in</strong> for improv<strong>in</strong>g<br />
competitiveness <strong>in</strong> the region.<br />
