A FEW GENERAL CRITICISMS.
IT should never be lost sight of in a critique
that we have only the opinion of one mind, and
if the subject be one with which the public are
imperfectly acquainted, they are for the time
being guided by the critic. We know what the
normal state of affairs generally is in regard
to public opinion on all subjects .. Individual
feelings, prejudices, idiosyncrasies, and {l personal
errors," lead the public to widely different
opinions on every matter that comes before
them, from the Tichborne case upwards or
