recollected that the figures gillen in the table represent<br />

only Cuttack, Pooree, <strong>and</strong> Balasore, the three<br />

principal districts of Orissa. Dr Hunter estimates<br />

the mortality throughout all the affected districts at<br />

one quarter of a million.<br />

Col. ll, Note 6.-See Blue-Book, Madras famine, 1866;<br />

cholera <strong>and</strong> fever deaths are not included in this.<br />

Col. 11, Note 7.-The excess of deaths, in the affected<br />

districts of 1869, over 1868, has been adopted here ;<br />

this is really too high. It was intended to quote<br />

Mr Henvey's remark concerning the estimation of<br />

famine mortality (see p. 321, Geddes), but un<strong>for</strong>tunately<br />

no copy of the passage was taken when the<br />
