that information to guide educational and career decisions<br />

Instructions for Conducting <strong>the</strong> Activity<br />
Tell students that in order to figure out what career <strong>the</strong>y would like to pursue <strong>the</strong>y can start by thinking about what<br />
<strong>the</strong>y like to do and are good at. This exercise will give <strong>the</strong>m an opportunity to learn more about <strong>the</strong>mselves.<br />
Distribute <strong>the</strong> “Things I Like” handout and have students write down <strong>the</strong> first things that come to mind on <strong>the</strong> list. Once<br />
all students have completed <strong>the</strong>ir lists, have students interview one ano<strong>the</strong>r in pairs or small groups, using <strong>the</strong> questions<br />
from <strong>the</strong> handout. For <strong>ESOL</strong> students, <strong>the</strong> teacher can model how to ask and answer <strong>the</strong> questions using <strong>the</strong> handout.<br />

Extension Activity<br />
Have students write a paragraph:<br />
• describing <strong>the</strong>ir hobbies<br />
• identifying at least 5 skills <strong>the</strong>y use by doing <strong>the</strong> hobby<br />
• identifying at least two jobs that use <strong>the</strong>se skills<br />
