To help students find out about their interests and talents and how to use
that information to guide educational and career decisions

Instructions for Conducting the Activity
Tell students that in order to figure out what career they would like to pursue they can start by thinking about what
they like to do and are good at. This exercise will give them an opportunity to learn more about themselves.
Distribute the “Things I Like” handout and have students write down the first things that come to mind on the list. Once
all students have completed their lists, have students interview one another in pairs or small groups, using the questions
from the handout. For ESOL students, the teacher can model how to ask and answer the questions using the handout.

Extension Activity
Have students write a paragraph:
• describing their hobbies
• identifying at least 5 skills they use by doing the hobby
• identifying at least two jobs that use these skills
