24. Brief Description of Project and Relevance to this Contract (include scope, size, and cost)
General Engineering Services: In 2008, the Tohopekaliga Water Authority (TWA)
retained Tetra Tech to evaluate the condition of Pump Stations Nos. 60 and 97, and to
identify appropriate improvements to address projected flows and reliability issues.
Subsequently, TWA authorized Tetra Tech to provide final design, permitting, bidding,
and construction phase services related to the recommended improvements.
In general, the improvements to Pump Station No. 60 included structural rehabilitation
of the wet well, installation of three (3) new 20 HP submersible pumps, replacement of
the discharge piping, installation of a biofiltration odor control system, new controls,
and a standby power system. Improvements to Pump Station No. 97 included
rehabilitation of two (2) existing circular wet wells, installation of three (3) new 90 HP
submersible pumps, replacement of the discharge piping, a magnetic flow meter,
installation of a biofiltration odor control system, new controls, and a standby power system. Both pump stations handle
significant flows and are located on fairly small sites which presented some challenges with respect to equipment layout and
maintenance of service during construction. Accordingly, the contract documents included detailed bypass pumping
requirements, limitations on noise emissions during construction, and stringent requirements with respect to reliability of the
bypass pumping systems. The project was constructed over a 6-month period without any overflows, interruptions in service, or
claims for additional compensation or contract time.
