COMMUNICATION WING<br />

Communication Wing is headed by Addl. Chief Engineer (Communication). This Wing is entrusted with<br />

<strong>the</strong> responsibiity <strong>of</strong> installation, testing, commissioning and subsequent maintenance <strong>of</strong> communication<br />

equipment e.g. VHF, PLCC, HF, Telemetering and Carrier Aided Teleprotection equipment throughout<br />

West Bengal. It has been functioning with its headquarter at Abhikshan Building at BN Block, Sector-<br />

V, Salt Lake, Kolkata - 700 091 with Addl. Chief Engineer and five independent field divisions at Kolkata,<br />

Howrah, Durgapur, Malda and Siliguri under two Circles (SB & NB). Besides, three independent Sub-<br />

Divisions have also been functioning at Birpara, Berhampore and Adisaptagram. One Dy. CE and one<br />

Superintending Engineer are also looking after Communication H.Q. including Central Communication<br />

repairing Laboratory and Central Stores. The functions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Central Laboratory is to deal with testing<br />

and calibration <strong>of</strong> various equipment and repair work <strong>of</strong> sophisticated electronic modules <strong>of</strong> different<br />

types <strong>of</strong> PLCC, VHF, HF, PAX and Telemetering etc. No repair work is vested on any contractor or<br />

manufacturer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> equipment unless <strong>the</strong> fault being very critical and such repairing is beyond <strong>the</strong> scope<br />

<strong>of</strong> this de<strong>part</strong>ment with existing instrumental set up. Moreover Communication Wing is equipped with a<br />

Centralised Accounts De<strong>part</strong>ment headed by a Jr. Manager (F&A). All works relating to establishment,<br />

personnel matters, procurement <strong>of</strong> stationeries, furniture etc. are done by our P&A Wing headed by Sr.<br />

Manager (P&A).<br />

Responsibilities :<br />

* Work related with maintenance <strong>of</strong> existing SCADA system with 10 RTU locations<br />

* Work related with installation, testing and commissioning <strong>of</strong> ULDC project work proposed for 47<br />

RTU locations under North Bengal & South Bengal<br />

* Work related with Distribution & Transmission, Microwave project and its utilisation under ULDC<br />

scheme<br />

* Installation, testing and commissioning <strong>of</strong> PLCC equipment for voice, data and teleprotection<br />

system<br />

* Testing and commissioning <strong>of</strong> VHF base station sets at different new Sub-stations covered under<br />

various schemes <strong>of</strong> Distribution, Transmission and Hydel systems <strong>of</strong> Distribution & Transmission<br />

* Routine and breakdown maintenance <strong>of</strong> PLCC, VHF and HF links at various stations<br />

* Replacement/augmentation <strong>of</strong> PLCC terminals, charger, auto dialling equipment etc.<br />

* Temporary VHF networking for Ganga Sagar Mela, Pous Mela and Joydeb Mela etc. to extend<br />

supportive services to Distribution Wing.<br />

* To interact with <strong>the</strong> field divisions for technological upgradation and development in <strong>the</strong><br />

Communication Network<br />

* To arrange Wireless Operating License clearance for new stations and renewal <strong>of</strong> licenses for<br />

existing VHF, HF, W/T stations from MOC & IT, WPC Wing, G.O.I<br />

* To procure VHF sets (Base Station & W/T) for Power Network as per time to time demand from<br />

Transmission, Distribution and Hydel wing<br />
