Job Recommendations
Postponed by COMPO
NEW YORK—No recommendations for the
post of executive vice-president of the Council
of Motion Picture Organizations developed
during the week. The committee on
management and personnel, headed by Leo
Brecher, postponed its meeting scheduled for
Wednesday (28i. There was talk of holding
it Friday (30) but that was considered too
close to the holiday weekend. It will probably
be held in a few days.
The committee's job of recommending a
man for the top executive position, a salaried
job, is admittedly a tough one. It is
probable that several recommendations will
be made. The final choice rests with the
executive board which is representative of
all members of the organization. There has
been no shortage of applications for the
and many high-ranking film men have
post,
offered their own suggestions. The committee
also will recommend other paid employes.
Besides Brecher, who also is a vice-president
of COMPO, the committee members
are: Gunther R. Lessing, vice-chairman:
William L. Ainsworth, Barney Balaban, S. H.
Fabian, William Namenson, Martin Quigley,
David O. Selznick, Ben F. Shearer and
Charles P. Skouras.
The committee on organization will meet
July 13 at the Hotel Astor. Harry Brandt is
chairman.
Loew's Theatre Property
In Indianapolis Sold
INDIANAPOLIS—A majority interest in
one of the most valuable pieces of property,
the L-shaped tract on which the Loew's
Theatre building and the Fidelity Trust
building stand has been sold for approximately
$550,000 cash. The sale was made by
competitive bidding, with Bapps Corp. the
winning bidder. In 1919 Loew's leased the
land for 99 years, and built a theatre building
on Pennsylvania Street, and the L-shaped
part was leased to the J. F. Wild bank,
now defunct, facing Market Street. Loew's
and the Fidelity Trust pay $50,000 a year
rent for the land. The lease has approximately
70 years to run.
Review Board Lists Four
For Mature Audiences
NEW YORK—Four features, all recommended
for mature audiences, are reviewed
in the June 23 issue of the National Board
of Review weekly guide to selected pictures.
They are: "Armored Car Robbery" (RKO).
"The Asphalt Jungle" (MGM), "If This Be
Sin" (UA) and "711 Ocean Drive" (Col).
Among the four short subjects reviewed,
"Chicken in the Rough" (RKO) gets a starred
rating. The others are: "Clown Prince of
Golf" and "College Sports Paradise" (Col),
and "Danger Sleuths" (RKO). All are recommended
for the family.
Plan 'Way Out' Premiere
NEW YORK — Twentieth Century-Fox is
planning an elaborate Broadway opening for
'No Way Out" during August. The theatre
has not been cho,sen yet. Richard Widmark
and Linda Darnell will attend.
