Twin Cities Drive-In Opened by S. P. Jones MINNEAPOLIS—The new $150,000 7-Hi Drive-In, built and operated by S. P. Jones, newcomer on the local film scene, was opened recently with "A Ticket to Tomahawk." Accommodating 750 cars the 7-Hi makes the sixth drive-in in operation in the Twin city area. Four of the present six Twin city area drive-ins are owned and operated by Minnesota Entertainment Enterprises, comprising prominent Minneapolis and St. Paul independent exhibitors, which is starting construction immediately of a fifth just outside of St. Paul. The new ozoner, costing $150,000 to $175,000, will have a capacity of 700 cars and take in 23 acres, according to Harold Field, MEE president. Field says the drive-in is to be called the Minnehaha and will be completed in August. The new 7-Hi Drive-In occupies a 15-acre tract and the plot includes a 60-foot high screen tower, a 52-foot snack bar and concession stand, and a children's playground. Plans also call for the eventual installation of a miniature golf course, putting green and horseshoe pits. The manager, Al Bloom, has been associated with major distributors here and elsewhere as exploiteer. Spa Motor Movie Opened EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, MO.—The 350-car Spa Motor Movie erected at a site on Route 69 one mile west of here recently was opened by the Winoko Corp. Owners of the new openair theatre are Carl Koch, B. C. Noah and Richard E. Wiles jr. Equipment furnished by National Theatre Supply, Kansas City, included Simplex X-L projectors. Simplex sound, Magnarc lamps and Strong rectifiers. Boulevard Drive-In Opened KANSAS CITY, KAS.—The new 1,000-car Boulevard Drive-In at 1800 Southwest Blvd. here was opened Friday night (30). Partners in the new open air theatre are Dr. Paul W. Gatzoulis, Charles Potter, Harold Lux and Arthur Burke. RCA projection and sound equipment for the new open-air theatre was furnished by the Missouri Theatre Supply Co. Start on Stratford House; To Be Ready in July STRATFORD. IOWA—Workmen were laying brick for the new Stratford Theatre here last week. M. K. Halvorson. who will manage the $25,000 house, said he believed the building would be ready for patrons by July 25. The building will measure 25x103 feet and will seat 280 persons. It will be the first theatre for Stratford. The house will bs air conditioned and will include a cry room, equipped with a bottle warmer and a diaper disposal unit. Baseball Forces Closure At Schaller for Summer SCHALLER, IOWA—The baseball competition is proving too tough here. Joseph Feldhans, owner of the Schaller Theatre, said that he plans to shut down during July and August and take a vacation. So many people in and around this town of 750 are turning out to watch the excellent baseball team this year, Feldhans said, that the theatre is not patronized. Eddie Cantor Tops Cast MINNEAPOLIS—Eddie Cantor will be in Minneapolis next month to top the cast of the annual WCCO radio show to be presented in the auditorium as one of the features of the annual local Aquatennial, summer mardi gras. The show last year was headed by Bob Hope. The latter was invited again, but a picture commitment prevented his acceptance. Ted Bolnick Takes Leave MINNEAPOLIS — Ted Bolnick, Bennie Berger circuit general manager and associate of Berger, on his physician's advice, is taking an indefinite leave of absence. In an effort to regain his health he will spend a considerable part of his time traveling. Booth Fire Hits Gretna GRETNA, NEB.—A booth fire put the Gretna Theatre out of business for several days. Mo TEI Purchases Drive-In Site NEBRASKA CITY, NEB.—Theatre Enterprises, Inc.. has purchased a site south of Wyuka cemetery for a drive-in. Cliff Keim, manager, said construction will begin this summer. There will be two entrances to the ozoner, from Fifth street to the road south of the cemetery and from the Paul road west of Steinhart park to the cemetery road. Majestic to Be Remodeled PHILLIPSBURG, KAS.—A remodeling and redecorating program has been launched at the Majestic Theatre here by R. R. Winship, who has operated the house many years. Among the improvements will be new seating, carpeting and RCA projection on equipment furnished by the Missouri Theatre Supply Co., Kansas City. World Famei Lime Springs Theatre Reopened LIME SPRINGS. IOWA—The Lime Theatre here opened June 23 under the management of John Miller of Minneapolis who purchased the house recently.
