SAN FRANCISCO
Ctockton City Attorney Bill Dozier appeared
before the state supreme court on behalf
of the city in an amusement tax case. Involved
is a two-cent-a-ticket tax on admissions
which Fox West Coast Theatres has
protested as "illegal," "double tax" and "discriminatory."
Litigation dates from 1945.
Supervisors for the second time turned
down an application by attorney G. E. Koshell
for a permit to build a $25,000 drive-in on
the northwest corner of Fruit Ridge road and
Franklin boulevard in Sacramento . . . Clarence
Wasserman, Sacramento theatre man,
said the new $15,000 Bell Drive-In Theatre
will be opened soon. The drive-in is being
constructed in the East Del Paso Heights
north of the Grant Union High school at
Bell avenue near Marysville road. Wasserman's
associates are J. S. Brunhouse and
Forrest Enwald.
Ruth Dow of San Francisco filed suit for
$200,000 damages in superior court alleging
that the current Katharine Hepburn film
"Adam's Rib" uses elements of a story she
wrote more than a decade ago. Named as
defendants are MGM and seven San Francisco
film houses. Miss Dow's story, titled
"Loose Me and Let Me Go," was completed in
1939 but never printed, published or copyrighted.
However, the complaint states that
parts of the story, some of the characters and
even parts of the dialog were used in the
film.
