The Miami Drive-In can claim a few
"firsts," one being that we were the first

We pay particular attention to our juvenile
patronage, in fact we stress this service
and consider it a pleasure. We are as proud
of our children's business as we are of our
adults'. We not only welcome the kids, wc
cater to them, even to the extent of stocking
those one-cent candies, which give so
much fun to the small fry.
A corner of the concession stand has
been fitted up as a "Little Drivers Club."

This large attraction board at the entrance to the
Miami Drive-ln Theatre includes the time each
picture goes on the screen. This is particularly
important in a tourist town where many patrons are
not familiar with local theatres.
and chairs, gaily painted and decorated
with decals. Above on the walls are large
decals of all the popular cartoon characters.
The club sign across the corner personalizes
the section as belonging to the kids and no
one else.
A story session is held for tots to keep
them interested until the show starts. Special
children's recordings are played.
We don't forget the children in the
ladies' powder room, either. One booth
marked "Little Ladies" is equipped with a
child's-size facility.
HONOR STUDENT ADMISSIONS
The Miami Drive-In is one of only two
open air theatres in this area honoring student
admissions. Tickets are 38 cents to
students upon presentation of their identification
cards.
Another "fii-st" for us that bore fruit
was our "free gifts for an idea." Publicity
read: "Mom and Dad: You may win $100

TIME OF SHOW IS
IMPORTANT
On the marquee at the entrance is included,
beside the title of each picture, the
time it goes on the screen. This is important
especially in a tourist town. Situated
as we are on a main thoroughfare, with a
stream of cars continually going by, we
are seen by thousands of seasonal visitors.
These are people who are not reading
newspapers at the moment and are not
familiar with local theatres. They see our
show times and come back.
On one wall of the concession stand a
huge map is painted. The name of a movie
star is placed beside the city which happens
to be his, or her, home town. Out-oftowners
invariably wind up studying this

their home states. By this means national
good will is localized to this tourist community.
AN ELECTION REMINDER
As a community goodwill service around
election times, we flash a sign on our screen
saying: "If you don't vote, don't bellyache
about the kind of government you get." We
sponsor no candidate of course, we simply
add our reminder to people to go to the
polls.

Maintenance at this theatre is perpetual.
There is a speaker check prior to opening
the theatre each day. Once a month the
whole theatre is carefully gone over, checking
all connections and speaker quality.
Adjustments are made for patrons during
the program when necessary. There are
spaces for 600 automobiles.
The theatre has one of the largest
screens in the south. It is surrounded with
a 16-foot black masking for clearer visibility.
New equipment brings us up-to-date
in every respect. We are admittedly not as
glamorous looking as many drive-ins, but
