Ocik Ridge Atomic Area
Gets Its First Theatre
OAK RIDGE, TENN.- Gamble Valley's first
motion picture theatre was opened recently
with a capacity crowd. Tlie theatre had been
.sought for a long time by residents, who have
complained about the lack of recreational facilities
in the atomic area. The fir.st night's
.showing was held up for .some time because
of heating difficulties but the operators hoped
to run on schedule in the future.
Operators of the new theatre are C. R. Lay
jr., Charles H. Bowman and John Burgess.
The house now has seats for about 300 persons
but they .said they hope to have more available
before long. The theatre, which is located
in the new shopping center, will be
operated seven days, with weekend matinees.
It is one of seven establishments in the center,
which include a .supermarket, cafe, beauty
shop, barber shop and poolroom. One shop is
still vacant; it had been planned for a liquor
store.
Lonnie Royal Appoints
H. E. Jackson Manager
LAUREL, MISS.—H. E. Jackson has been
appointed general manager of the Royal circuit
by Lonnie Royal, owner of the theatres
in Meridian, Hattiesburg, Waynesboro and on
the Gulf Coast. A native son but recently
of Hattiesburg, Jackson was connected with
the Royal circuit when it owned two theatres
here. He has been manager of the Royal at
Hattiesburg for the past 18 months and associated
with Royal for the past eight years.
Jackson was educated here and associated
himself with the film industry upon leaving
school. He will make his headquarters in
Hattiesburg.
Ralph Peckham Is Named
Classic Southern Head
NEW YORK—Ralph E. Peckham, formerly
associated with Snader Productions in the
southern territory, has been named southern
division manager for Classic Pictures by Max
J. Rosenberg, president. Peckham will headquarter
in Atlanta. Before being associated
with Snader, Peckham was branch manager
for Film Classics in Atlanta. He has been in
the industry for 31 years.
Lavnrence Barmiza to Leesburg
LEESBURG, PT^A.—Lawrence Banniza, formerly
of Tampa, has been appointed manager
of the Palace here by Bill Cumbaa, general
manager for MCM theatres. He formerly was
assistant at the Palace in Tampa.
