<strong>The</strong> majority <strong>of</strong> wives felt that <strong>the</strong> church needed to be educated on <strong>the</strong><br />

role <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> pastor’s <strong>wife</strong> in <strong>the</strong> local church. Of those that felt this was a<br />

necessity, <strong>the</strong> majority understood <strong>the</strong> role to be non-standard in nature.<br />

<strong>The</strong>se wives also believed that scripture taught about <strong>the</strong> role.<br />

Some wives indicated that whe<strong>the</strong>r scripture spoke specifically about<br />

<strong>the</strong> role <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> pastor’s <strong>wife</strong> or not <strong>the</strong> congregational members were to<br />

understand <strong>the</strong>ir position in <strong>the</strong> church.<br />

Wives discussed <strong>the</strong> need to be, in a sense, unnoticed. <strong>The</strong>y wished to<br />

express <strong>the</strong>ir involvement in <strong>the</strong> church as a regular church member and not<br />

particularly a leader or <strong>of</strong>fice holder.<br />

Those wives who felt <strong>the</strong> church did not need to be educated on <strong>the</strong><br />

role expressed ei<strong>the</strong>r a church congregation that understood <strong>the</strong>m or felt <strong>the</strong>re<br />

was insufficient reason to educate members; indirectly <strong>the</strong> churches to which<br />

<strong>the</strong>se wives belonged had over 200 members.<br />
