iii. Intravenous fluids costing Rs. 30.00 or more per bottle.<br />

iv. External preparati<strong>on</strong> costing Rs. 30.00 or more per bottle <strong>of</strong> 60ml or<br />

less, tube or vial.<br />

vi. All steroidal preparati<strong>on</strong>s<br />

vii. All antibiotics<br />

Local Purchase <strong>of</strong> Drugs<br />

32. C<strong>on</strong>sultant may use the facility <strong>of</strong> local purchase <strong>of</strong> <strong>drugs</strong> for individual<br />

indoor patients and such purchases should <strong>on</strong>ly be d<strong>on</strong>e at the request <strong>of</strong> the<br />

c<strong>on</strong>sultant in writing. The Head <strong>of</strong> the Instituti<strong>on</strong>, after verifying that the drug<br />

in questi<strong>on</strong> is not available in the RMSD and MSD may approve such<br />

purchase. Such informati<strong>on</strong> is provided to the instituti<strong>on</strong>s by MSD via e-mail<br />

weekly. In additi<strong>on</strong>, it is published through the Ministry <strong>of</strong> Health website<br />

(www. health.gov.lk).<br />

33. Under the above scheme, c<strong>on</strong>sultants may request for local purchase <strong>of</strong><br />

special items which are not included in the Sri Lanka Hospital Formulary or<br />

in the annual drug estimate but registered for use in the country.<br />

All requests for local purchases have to be made by the generic names <strong>on</strong>ly.<br />

34. For this purpose, the Regi<strong>on</strong>al Director <strong>of</strong> Health Services will make an<br />

allocati<strong>on</strong> at the beginning <strong>of</strong> the year to Provincial, District General /Base<br />

Hospitals with c<strong>on</strong>sultants, who are <strong>on</strong>ly allowed this facility. In the case <strong>of</strong><br />

centrally managed instituti<strong>on</strong>s, the allocati<strong>on</strong> will be given by the Ministry <strong>of</strong><br />

Health<br />

i. Nati<strong>on</strong>al Hospital - 10% <strong>of</strong> value <strong>of</strong> annual drug estimate<br />

ii. Teaching Hospitals - 10% <strong>of</strong> value <strong>of</strong> annual drug estimate<br />

iii. Provincial Hospitals – 5% <strong>of</strong> value <strong>of</strong> annual drug estimate<br />

iv. District General Hospitals - 5% <strong>of</strong> value <strong>of</strong> annual drug estimate<br />

v. Base Hospitals- 2.5% <strong>of</strong> value <strong>of</strong> annual drug estimate<br />
