An asphalt road takes you to the top of a hill from where there is a beautiful view
over the Soča Valley, the Cerkljansko mountain range, Baška grapa, the Julian
Alps, Goriška Brda, and the Kanal hills. Here stands the secluded Široko tourist
farm. Your hosts are a four-member family who will offer you pleasant overnight
accommodation, homegrown farm food (their specialties include dried meat
products and a wide variety of hot meals), and advice on how to best spend your
free time. You can hike in the mountains, descend into caves and abysses, go
paragliding and mountain biking, or join the hunters. In winter we recommend
downhill skiing on Mount Kanin, cross-country skiing, and ski touring. The
archeological site at Most na Soči, the Kobarid and Tolmin museums, Kozlov
Rob, and more await your visit regardless of the season.
The village of Zakojca lies on the edge of the Primorska region on the border
between the Tolmin and Cerkljansko regions high above the Baška grapa gorge
on the slopes of Mount Kojca. On the edge of the village stands the Tušar family’s
“Pri Flandru” farm. They work the farm in harmony with nature so there is no
lack of homegrown food and items such as pršut (prosciutto), želodec, salami,
sausages, bržola, minced lard, homemade bread, and other goodies from Marija’s
kitchen. The Tušars love animals, and along with cows they also have horses
suitable for riding and carriage rides. In addition to taking riding lessons and
trail riding, guests can also enjoy skiing on the slope at the farm or at the nearby
Cerkno ski center. In summer you can go bicycling, hike on Mount Kojko (1,303
m), Porezen (1,632 m), Črno prst, and Rodica, and enjoy fishing and hunting.
The area is rich with natural and cultural points of interest to visit such as the
Divje Babe archeological site, the Kobarid Museum, the Franja Partisan Hospital,
the mercury mine and museum in Idrija, and many others.
You will find the farm in the village of Straža (also known as Želin) on the main Idrija–Tolmin road, by the
confluence of two rivers, the Cerknica and the Idrijca. The farm is situated on a small plain, far from the
noise of the road. It is an excellent starting point for day trips (Posočje, Goriška Brda, Postojna, Kras, Piran,
Ljubljana, Bled, Bohinj) or short excursions into the nearby hills (Blegoš, Porezen, Kojca). It is also popular
with anglers since the nearby Idrijca is a great source of enjoyment and relaxation. The nearby towns of
Cerkno and Idrija and the surrounding area offer a variety of cultural, natural and historical sights of interest.
In warm weather you can swim in the large pool next to the house, hire bicycles or play with your children in
the meadow or on the playground equipment. In winter you can take advantage of the well-equipped Cerkno
Ski Centre. Evening saunas and soaking in the massage tub are even more enjoyable after a hard day's skiing.
The farm also offers numerous gastronomic delights. Home-made jams, honey, spreads of various kinds and
fresh-baked bread will have your mouth watering even at breakfast. Excellent cured meat products, homemade
sausages in the winter months, savoury strudels of various kinds, and also simple peasant dishes are
available on the menu. Local speciality žlikrofi (a kind of ravioli) with various accompaniments are always
available. The Želinc farm is also a member of the European "Houses of Tradition" network, whose symbol
represents homeliness and tradition and a recognisable character within a complete infrastructure.
In the village of Planina, by the regional road connecting Cerkno and Škofja Loka
via the Kladje pass, stands a new house with modern double rooms, each with
shower/WC and a balcony. Your hosts will serve you food produced and prepared
on the farm, including vegetables, cured meat products, savoury strudels, cakes,
jams, juices, herbal teas, brandy and liqueurs. Get to know the horses and
donkeys on the farm, pick herbs, and sleep in the hay. The surrounding area
offers many opportunities for mountaineering and hiking: Porezen, Blegoš,
Bevkov Vrh, Kojca, Ermanovec, Škorje and Lajše are all worth visiting. Other
interesting destinations in the area include the Divja Baba archaeological site,
where a Neanderthal flute, the world's oldest musical instrument, was found, the
Franja Partisan Hospital, and the mercury mine and museum in Idrija. In winter
you can ski on the slopes of the Cerkno ski centre.
