There are five houses in the village, and the “Davčenovi” farm is not the only
one engaged in farm tourism. Guests enjoy the extremely sunny location of the
farm, where the hosts make charcoal and brandy. The family is also very familiar
with the medicinal plant and herbs that can be picked in the area. On the farm
they offer you all sorts of vegetables, meat and meat products, and milk and
dairy products, and you can also try their homemade pear juice and brandy.
Slovene guests mostly visit the Škofja Loka and Polhov Gradec mountain ranges,
medieval Škofja Loka, and numerous other points of interest. For guests from
abroad, the farm is an excellent starting point for touring Gorenjska, Bled,
Bohinj, Primorska and the Slovene coast, Postojna and its surroundings, and
Ljubljana. In winter guests primarily come for the skiing since the Stari vrh ski
center is only six hundred meters from the farm. The farm offers programs for
kindergartens and younger primary school pupils with several days' duration –
natural science camps – as well as outdoor school in winter.
Nestled at the foot of Mount Stari vrh in the hill country by Škofja Loka is
the village of Četena Ravan, home of the Kržišnik family. The family has nine
members, which guarantees that you will be well looked after. Upon coming
home from ascending the nearby peaks, you can expect to be served with
delicacies such as smoked and cold meats, homemade bread, chicken rolls, and
stuffed pork roast, as well as a variety of delicious vegetarian dishes. The area is
a great starting point for nature walks and lies directly on the Trans-European
hiking trail. In winter, the skiing is excellent on the slopes of Stari vrh, and in
summer you can explore the countryside by bicycle, gather medicinal herbs, and
go paragliding or swimming. The Charcoal Burner's Sunday in Grebljica takes
place on the first Sunday in August.
The tourist activity of the Dolenc family started three decades ago when they furnished
the first guest rooms in the 170-year-old farmhouse where the family of the writer Ivan
Tavčar once lived. While this house was replaced several years ago with a new, modern
house built to satisfy the needs of the contemporary guest, it remains similar to the old
one and includes elements of the old architecture. A ceiling from the venerable year 1799,
stone portals, and two 200-year-old frescoes The farm offers mostly homegrown food.
Their culinary specialties are stews and štruklji, but they always cater to the needs and
wishes of their guests. They make their own cottage cheese, butter, and jam, and bake
their bread in the traditional open oven. You’ll also find homemade sausages and ham on
the table, and father Pavle makes excellent brandy. In winter, most guests go skiing and
sledding at the Stari vrh ski center, which is only 700 meters from the farm. In summer
guests find peace and quiet walking along one of the marked paths or picking medicinal
herbs in nearby Četena raven, while serious hikers can climb the Blegoš, Lubnik, Gora,
Mladi vrh, and Stari vrh mountains. There are many trails for mountain biking as well as
nearby tennis courts to enjoy.
The Podmlačan farm stands on a hill in the middle of meadows. The farm has
existed for over 700 years and is still famous for producing everything at home,
including bread. The food alone makes a visit to the Škofja Loka hills worthwhile.
City children in particular will be amazed by how yellow the butter is, and time
passes quickly beside the farm oven enjoying homemade sausages, minced lard,
ham, brandy, and must. There are countless trails in the area where guests can
walk or ride bicycles; they can also collect herbs and forest fruits, go fishing, and
much more. In winter, there is skiing at the nearby Stari vrh ski center. Children
can play in the barn to their heart's content, and the Debeljaks organize nature
study field trips to nearby Jarčje Brdo as well as farm holidays for children who
want to escape from their parents for a few days. For children there are many
farm animals: cows, chickens, pigs, goats, a peacock . . .
