The Črpič-Svetnik farm is situated in Gaj, a quiet little village, on a hill surrounded by
vineyards offering a nice view of the neighbouring Croatia. There are always delicious
aromas wafting from the kitchen since the hostess is an excellent cook. Guests of the farm
will be offered delicious dishes such as rib steak in green pepper sauce, porcini mushroom
soup, delicious roasts, roast chicken and duck, meat roll… In winter there are also
homemade blood sausages and other sausages on the menu. There are also interesting
side dishes accompanying meat such as cheese, buckwheat or tarragon štruklji, mlinci,
homemade fettuccine, gnocchi, sauerkraut, žganci… Your meal will taste even better if
you accompany it with a glass or two of local wine. The farm is very family-friendly since
there a children's playground, children's corner, a soccer field, volleyball and badminton
courts. A barbeque can be also arranged if you wish. Upon previous arrangement your
hosts can take you for a ride with an old-fashioned cart, show you the ethnologic and
winemaking collection “Vogrinov hram” or organize tasting of local wines. They will also
appreciate your help during grape harvesting. After visiting the farm you can go on to
visit the castle in Mokrice, the swimming pools of Terme Čatež, the town of Brežice…
Among the winegrowing hills and the peaks of the Gorjanci mountain range
stands the “Pri Martinovih” tourist farm. They welcome guests in a wooden
farmhouse more than 250 years old that has been beautifully restored and
protected as a cultural monument. A kozolec (traditional Slovene hayrack),
a granary, and a hay barn stand beside the house. Hungry guests are spoiled
with various homemade delicacies such as cold cuts, soups, stews, and meat
dishes (roast port, lamb, suckling pig, chicken, and duck). In winter they cook
sauerkraut, matevž, and roasted blood sausage. They offer a wide range of side
dishes, bread from the open oven, various strudels, and as a local specialty they
offer buckwheat potancelj. Homemade delicacies are well complemented from
the farm wine cellar with Cviček, Modra Frankinja, and white wines and apple
juice. Guests can swim at the nearby Čatež Thermal Spa, the Krka River is even
closer, and they can drive to Kostanjevica na Krki or walk to Veliki Cirnik or Sv.
The Drča family farm is situated in a small village of the same name, on a hill under the mighty
Gorjanci mountain range. The farm is on a secluded location, surrounded by vineyards on one
side and by a forest on the other. All five members of the Drča family will delight you with their
hospitality. The hosts like to point out that they will pour their guests only the best wine and are
also known to cook a delicious roast suckling pig or lamb in the outside fireplace. In winter, guests
particularly appreciate their homemade sausages and other meat products that are a staple of the
menu throughout the year. The hostess will be happy to provide vegetarian meals as well. Guests
who decide to visit the farm can also join the hostess in cooking all these wonderful dishes, and
if you visit the farm in autumn, you can join in grape harvesting as well as collecting and roasting
chestnuts. If you wish, you can go for a ride in an old-fashioned cart drawn by beautiful Lipizzaner
horses. The farm is an excellent starting point for visiting Pleterje Carthusian monastery and the
nearby thermal resorts (Šmarješke Toplice, Terme Čatež, Dolenjske toplice). If you like horseback
riding, we're happy to inform you that there is an excellent riding school near the farm, suitable
both for those who wish to learn the basics of horseback riding as well as for those who want to
improve their skills.
Once, when Šentjernej was a strong center for manufacturing pottery, a
rooster was impressed on the bottoms of dishes, and in its memory a statue
stands today in the village. On the Pr’ Martinovh farm you will encounter this
Šentjernej beauty in the farmyard where he keeps company with numerous other
farm animals. The farm, on which a five-member family lives, is five kilometers
from Šentjernej, the same from Otočec, and a little farther from the Carthusian
monastery in Pleterje, the Šmarjske Toplice Health resort, Novo mesto, and
Kostanjevica na Krki. When guests return from swimming or excursions,
culinary delicacies prepared exclusively from homegrown produce wait for them
on the table.
