The Domen tourist farm is next to Toplica stream, between Otočec and Šmarješke
Toplice, about halfway between Ljubljana and Zagreb. It offers its resident and
non-resident guests selected home-made food characteristic of Dolenjska and
the wider area, including štruklji, duck, bread rolls, strudel and blood sausages.
It is open to non-resident guests on Saturdays and Sundays, to groups by prior
arrangement, while resident guests are served breakfast and an evening meal.
For larger groups, it is possible to organise picnics in the countryside or by the
vineyard cottage, tennis or football tournaments, mushroom picking, cycling
excursions, trips along the valley of castles, balloon rides or sightseeing tours of
local archaeological and ethnological attractions, galleries and museums. While
on holiday, children will especially enjoy being in the company of horses, ducks,
geese and other farmyard animals.
open to guests:
1. 1. - 31. 12. (by prior arrangement)
Just a stone's throw from the main road and you will find yourself in a quiet little
valley with a murmuring brook, surrounded by forests, where the Šeruga family
will offer you their warm hospitality. You will be dazzled by their enthusiasm
for their work, by the enchanting natural setting, by the natural materials used
throughout the property, by lovingly prepared food that follows the tradition
of our ancestors. All the food is grown in a way that is nature-friendly and also
friendly to people. This is the true attraction of the farm: the Šerugas live their
lives with love towards nature, towards their guests and towards themselves.
The biggest reward for the owners is the satisfaction of their guests, but the
farm has also received several prominent awards for architecture, gastronomy
and maintaining tradition. In 2001 the farm was accepted in the elite association
of Houses of Tradition and is recommended in all major tourist guides.
open to guests:
Surrounded by meadows and forest, the pleasant village of Maline is located at
the foot of the Gorjanci mountain range in Bela krajina, and here you will find
the Pecel Tourist Farm. The Pecel farm has “ecological farm” status, and all their
food and drink is organically produced. From the kitchen drift the aromas of
Bela krajina cake, roast lamb, and all sorts of other delicacies. The farm prides
itself on excellent, organically-grown wines including the red Metliška Črnina,
Bela krajina white wine, and Chardonnay, which you can also buy. In addition to
wine, organically-produced fruit juices, fruit vinegars, dried fruits, fruit brandies,
and dried meat products are also available. The horses, which are a symbol of the
farm, will particularly impress you. If you wish, your hosts will take you on a short
excursion with a carriage or a hay wagon. In the summer you can treat yourself
to an overnight stay in the old hay barn, where there is also a museum of farm
tools. You can also rent an apartment for five in the 150-year-old farmhouse.
open to guests:
1. 1. - 31. 12.
Only six kilometers from Metlika, the Bajuk excursion farm stands on a hill
overlooking Bela Krajina and neighbouring Croatia. If you have a penchant for
fine wines, this is the place for you since their wine cellar five meters below
ground is exactly the right temperature to store a variety of excellent wines. The
best time to visit Bajuk is during the grape harvest when guests can help with
the work and enjoy wine tasting in the wine cellar. The quality of the food served
at the farm is as good as the wine and includes roast lamb or suckling pig on the
spit, fresh home-grown vegetables, and delicious pies and potica for dessert. An
annual springtime wine festival is held in Metlika between the 18th and 20th of
May, and in Črnomelj enjoy the ancient Jurjevanje festival in June. The best way
to be sure to experience all the wonderful festivities in the region is to visit the
Bajuk farm often.
