With tradition to renown, with quality to trust. Tourism in the traditional Zdolšek
house ensures a high-quality tourist offer to those guests who demand privacy,
comfort, genuineness and the finest tourist services. The mainstays of the
homestead are agriculture and viniculture. A stone inscription of the year 1824 over
the entry portal of the house bears witness to its age. There is a large garden and
orchard in front of the homestead. The homestead is in the hands of those who turn
their backs on mass tourism, and thus attracts above all those guests seeking privacy,
peace and relaxation. The surrounding area is varied and interesting. Nature lovers
may go cycling, mushroom picking, gathering healing herbs or simply stroll through
the beautiful countryside. Guests find it interesting to get to know the way of life on
the homestead and in the surrounding area, while nearby tourist centres, including
Terme Olimia and Terme Rogaška, may additionally enrich your stay. Its inclusion
on the list of four-apple tourist farms demonstrates the quality of the tourist offer
on the homestead. It was admitted to the European network of traditional houses in
Slovenia due to its elements of tradition, its special character and homeliness.
The Bizjak farm is located in the hilly region of Kozjansko just about halfway
between the Rogaška Slatina and Atomske Toplice health resorts; near the house
beside the forest are a barn, a kozolec, and a vineyard work shed. The latter
promises that guests will not leave thirsty, and the good wines are accompanied
by fresh pork and beef, dried meat products, cottage cheese, and homemade
bread. For desert, the cottage cheese potica (better known locally as zafrkječa) is
truly special. Pleasant walking destinations include the two pilgrimage churches
on nearby Tinski vrh, and car excursions can be made to the monastery and
medieval pharmacy in Olimje and the health resorts. There is always plenty to
do on the farm, from corn husking to playing in the hayloft, and since several
members of the family are skilled musicians, the evenings resound with Slovene
songs.
The Juričko family wine cellar lies among the rolling hills of Bizeljsko. Its position
on a hill, near the forest, surrounded by meadows and overlooking a vineyard
offers its visitors nice views of the picturesque landscape. The Juričkos are wellknown
for making excellent wines that will be most appreciated by wine lovers.
To accompany their wines, they will offer you delicious homemade meat products.
Families with children are also welcome at the wine cellar; during the warmer
months children can play on the grass or on the swing. If you wish, during your
stay you can rent bikes from the Juričkos and set out to explore the surroundings.
Some of the places worth visiting include the nesting grounds of the European beeeater
(Merops apiaster), repnicas (caves dug into siliceous sand for storing crops),
and castles in Podsreda, Bizeljsko and Pišece. If you like to have fun in the pool
and enjoy the benefits of thermal spas, Terme Čatež, Terme Olimia and Terme
Tuhelj in the neighbouring Croatia are not far away. In the cold winter months you
can relax in the sauna or warm your bones near the fireplace. The hosts can also
organize for their guests tours of repnicas and peasants' museums.
In the heart of hills beneath Boč, a mere three kilometres from well-known
Rogaška Slatina, the healing water of which has attracted guests for several
centuries, lies a farm of friendly people. Here, it is possible to marvel at the
wondrous views all the way to the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and to enjoy original
culinary delights which preserve the characteristics of traditional Kozjansko
cuisine. Specialities include hare in a herb sauce, roasted goat’s kid, buckwheat
and cottage cheese štruklji, meat in aspic jelly, salamis, bread from the wood oven
and home-made conserves. Home-made wine is a splendid accompaniment to
all of the above. Of all of the numerous animals which you can see on the farm,
the small goats and rabbits are undoubtedly the most interesting for children.
There are many possibilities for active holidays. The Marjanca farm is a perfect
place for a variety of full-day excursions, upon which you may get to know the
history, architecture and natural attractions of the area.
