The farm featuring a 200-year-old vineyard cottage is to be found on a hill in the village
of Zasavci, from where wonderful views open up across the nearby winegrowing hills.
The hosts are happy to say that they have a rich culinary offer. They are sure to charm
their guests with turkey, home-baked in the wood oven and St Martin’s goose, prepared
according to the recipes of our grandmothers. Other treats to fill your plate include
home-made bread, pork roast, buckwheat cake and outstanding desserts, such that even
the most demanding guests will be completely delighted. Every dish is accompanied by a
thoughtfully-selected wine, as the farm boasts a broad choice of quality and high-quality
wines. Vegetarians will not leave the table hungry either. Taking part in grape-picking,
helping to set up a ‘klopotec’, a kind of scarecrow which is a typical feature of the region,
or St Martin’s feast are all events which will serve to leave a lasting impression. Should
you so wish, you may join a guided wine-tasting. The farm is an ideal spot to set out for a
visit to the thermal baths at Banovci, Radenci, Moravske Toplice or Lendava. Otherwise,
you might find Jeruzalem, Ormož, Ljutomer or Ptuj, one of the most beautiful Slovenian
towns, well worth a visit.
The Bogša farm has an idyllic setting north of Ormož in a village that you won't
find in any tourist literature. There is never a shortage of wine and homemade
bread served with sausages, pork preserved in lard, homemade aspic, fresh
vegetables, and dairy products; on weekends, they serve suckling pig roasted in
the bread oven. In this tiny village, guests mainly enjoy the peace of nature. It
is also possible to observe fallow deer in the pen on the farm. The house has a
sauna and a lawn suitable for all kinds of outdoor games. Hunting has a special
place here, and you can go hunting in the forest or wait for game in the blinds
with members of the hunters' association in Ormož. The closest health resort is
the Ptuj Thermal Spa, and the Banovci spa is not much farther away. There is a
large wine cellar in Ormož, and touring the Ljutomer and Ormož Wine Roads is
a delight. Ljutomer boasts the oldest equestrian club in Slovenia, and in season
you can enjoy the harness races.
The Ozmec farm stands on the slopes of Slovenske Gorice in the heart of
Prlekija. What the people of Prlekija allow themselves they offer with pleasure
to their guests goes the saying, and the Ozmec farm is no exception. The whole
year round they prepare delicious Prlekija dishes to order, and you can get
homemade cold cuts, pork preserved in lard, bread, and wine from own vineyard
at any time. When they have more guests–there is seating for 80-120 diners–
they offer sauerkraut with roast sausage or blood sausage, other meat dishes,
and for dessert, pogača and postržjača. On the farm, you can help tend the vines
in spring and harvest grapes in autumn and eat with the family when the work
is done. Local sights worth visiting include the Sv. Trojica (Holy Trinity) church
from 1219, the viewing tower in Gomila, the castle in Velika Nedelja, and the
wine cellars of Ormož and Jeruzalem, and, of course, a trip to Ptuj is a must weit.
The Sv. Tomaž ski area is only three kilometers from the farm, and the thermal
pools of the Ptuj, Banovci, and Bioterme Mala Nedelja spas are not far away.
The farm of Franc Kupljen, a well-known Slovene winegrower, is on a hill with
beautiful views across vineyards. The culinary offer available on the farm revives
the tradition of Prlekija, including such treats as Prlekija meat in aspic jelly,
Prlekija gibanica, mlinci (a kind of thin dough), home-made salamis and sausages.
This is merely a sample of their rich menu, which is also suitable for vegetarians.
You may purchase excellent open and bottled wine, as well as home-produced
plum and pear brandy on the farm. Wine lovers may enjoy guided wine-tasting.
All those who like to discover hidden corners of the areas they visit, can take
a chance to go to the castle at Negova, view the windmills or explore Radenci.
Your hosts will also be happy to organise a guided tour in the surrounding area
or further afield.
