Between 1996 and 1997, the Wolfgang
Stocker architects bureau also modernised
the building at Schweigerstrasse 16
(see next page). Since four of the twelve
residents absolutely refused to move
out, new doors and flooring were built
room for room, wherever necessary. The
work had to be conducted “around”
the tenants, as related later by Wolfgang
Stocker. But the result is that the
estate now has a contemporary living
standard, with self-contained central
heating, new balconies, modern windows
and complete thermal insulation in
the façade. An additional two apartments
were created in the attic space.
