Garmischer Straße
For some, living alongside the Mittlerer
Ring road has been a reality for over a
generation. At last, the tunnel below
the Garmischer Strasse from the Luise-
Kiesselbach-Platz (at the end of the motorway
from Garmisch-Partenkirchen) to
the IGA Bridge/ Westpark presents a
unique opportunity to improve the existing
housing. The starting point was the
city council resolution entitled “Plan of
Action for the Mittlerer Ring 2001-
2005”, which required a system made
up of “noise protection modules.”
One of the main aims is to develop a
housing row between the Krünerstrasse
and the Hinterbärenbadstrasse, from
which the apartments look out towards
the sunny south without being exposed
to the noise of traffic. Four teams of
architects devised proposals: Felix &
Jonas Architects from Munich, together
