New build - GWG München

The Otto Klär architects from Dachau
added a further storey to all the buildings,
connecting pairs of stairwells
through a front-standing tower with
walkways and a lift, providing barrierfree
access to all apartments. In addition
to the optimised layouts of the apartments,
the new, south-facing balconies
raise the quality of living considerably.
The steel balconies stand structurally
separate and resist thermal bridges.
But there is more: the Munich landscape
architect Jutta Giessel completely
redesigned the green spaces to incorporate
the old trees, adding pathways and
play areas, wooden walkways and new
bushes to underline the spaciousness.
The buildings and courtyards have long
constituted a unit. The result is an
effective ensemble that can be enjoyed
by all who live here. And the efforts of
GWG München and its planners did not
go without recognition. In 2005, they
received the honorary prize for “quality
residential building, housing for senior
citizens and exemplary renovation”, one
of five honourable mentions. A truly
model project!
