Residential buildings along Bad- Schachener-Strasse In spring 2009, GWG München announced its “Competition for the Construction of New Residential Buildings Along the Bad-Schachener-Strasse”. The total space planned for the subsidised residential buildings comprises 3.3 hectares. At the same time, the street is also to be redesigned. Part of the competition was also devoted to the landscape, building and outside space planning of selected sections. The jury awarded two prizes: to ARGE Dipl.-Ing. architect Florian Krieger with Dipl.-Ing. architect Silke Thron from Darmstadt and Dipl.-Ing. Irene Burkhardt (landscape architect), from Munich, and also to Robert Meyer from Munich with T 17 landscape architects Manfred Kerler also from Munich. The realisation was awarded to ARGE Dipl.-Ing. architect Florian Krieger. The first models show the Bad-Schachener-Strasse as a dynamic space. 48 View of the Bad-Schachener-Strasse towards the west
Sections of the southern view (top) and northern view (bottom) Outline of the ground floor including outside areas N The architects consciously created a “choreography” of building structures that accentuates the road space, turning it into a veritable gateway to the city. The architects describe this as a “balance between their structure as identifiable buildings and their integration into an overall formation” in which “the staggered construction alternates with complete incisions into the cubature atop the continuous two-storey pedestal.” The roof gardens are almost Mediterranean, with a glass shield offering rain and wind protection and providing additional free space for the upper storeys. Many apartments are oriented towards three sides: the east, west, and north. To keep the noise levels within manageable limits, kitchens and bathrooms face the road, with living rooms and bedrooms opening out to the rear side via loggias.
