The “Am Paulanerplatz” modernisation
project has breathed new life into this
organic ensemble from the mid-1950s.
A new storey has been added and the
complex as a whole brought in line with
modern standards, both in terms of
energy efficiency and aesthetics.
Once again, the Munich architect Wolfgang
Stocker turned small apartments
with captive rooms into 109 modern
and bright apartments. He redesigned
the staircases and created a contemporary
living space with central heating,
bathrooms, and attached balconies. The
full thermal insulation on all façades and
the new windows show how to create
good energy levels from old building
structures.
The extensive improvement measures
in the outdoor areas give a clue to the
extent of the modernisation project. The
surfaces have been unsealed to allow
rainwater to be absorbed and re-enter
the groundwater.
