“Cities are always made up of buildings and people,” writes
architectural historian Spiro Kostof in his standard work, “The
Face of the City”. This may sound banal but, in fact, it cannot
be overstated. People put their stamp on their surroundings;
they bring buildings, roads and squares to life.
Munich is growing. Many people are attracted to the prosperous
metropolis. And this situation is set to stay. Once quiet
neighbourhoods will change their character and become
fashionable suburbs, rented accommodation will be replaced
by owner-occupied properties and luxury loft apartments will
replace former industrial sites. But a city does not live from
economic success alone; it is the mixture of the different social
groups, types, nations and lifestyles that make up its character.
GWG München is growing along with the changes in society.
It has taken on the challenge of sustainably renovating its
properties and will continue to provide affordable housing for
the people of Munich. It will continue to modernise its buildings
and build new ones. Because neighbourhoods need a
good mixture of people from all backgrounds to keep them
alive.
