in this line. <strong>The</strong> quality and character <strong>of</strong> tlie milk supplied<br />
for city use would also be a legitim<strong>at</strong>e field for investig<strong>at</strong>ion,<br />
and it is popularly assumed th<strong>at</strong> the milk (piestion<br />
and the w<strong>at</strong>er question are not very distantly rel<strong>at</strong>ed.<br />
In conclusion, I desire to acknowledge my indebtedness<br />
to the various <strong>of</strong>ficials and citizens with whom I have been<br />
brought in contact during the past few weeks, and extend<br />
to them my hearty thanks for tlieir <strong>at</strong>tention and cordial<br />

In obedience to instructions given by the Board <strong>at</strong> its<br />
annual meeting <strong>at</strong> Greensboro I addressed the following<br />
letter to Surgeon General Wyman <strong>of</strong> the United St<strong>at</strong>es<br />
Marine Hospital Service:<br />

Dear Sir:—After a conference with Passed Assistant Surgeon J. J.<br />
Kinyoun, representing yourself and tlie Service, the Nortli <strong>Carolina</strong><br />
Board <strong>of</strong> Health, <strong>at</strong> its recent meeting on the Kith instant in the city <strong>of</strong><br />
Greensboro, unanimousl}' passed the following motion :<br />
" Moved, th<strong>at</strong> in view <strong>of</strong> the inability or unwillingness <strong>of</strong> the city <strong>of</strong><br />
Wilmington to contribute its part towards carrying out the act <strong>of</strong> the<br />
last General Assembly providing for the erection <strong>of</strong> a tirst-class quarantine<br />
st<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>at</strong> Southport, the Secretary be instructed to <strong>of</strong>ficially request<br />
the United St<strong>at</strong>es Marine Hospital Service to take charge <strong>of</strong> and o|)er<strong>at</strong>e<br />
th<strong>at</strong> st<strong>at</strong>ion; and th<strong>at</strong> the Secretary be authorized to explain this action<br />
on the part <strong>of</strong> the Board."<br />
